The Postgraduate Diploma in Molecular and Diagnostic Pathology (PDipMDPath) programme aims to provide health care professionals with a deeper understanding of the molecular and genetic basis of diseases and the application of molecular technologies in disease management. The programme will be delivered through didactic seminars, tutorials and case studies/practicals, with self-assessment exercises and completion of a project report for students reading for the Diploma. On-line teaching and discussion will also form a part of the learning experience.
Emphasis will be given to the understanding of molecular and diagnostic pathology, with a focus on clinical translational application that will equip participants to meet the increasing expectations in health care from patients and the general public and is the first organized programme of its kind in Hong Kong. The PDipMDPath is approved by the Medical Council of Hong Kong as a quotable qualification.
PDipMDPath candidates are required to complete a minimum of 63 credit units. Students are required to choose one of the two tracks below:
Candidates should complete three Molecular Pathology (27 credits), and two Diagnostic Pathology Courses (18 credits) and submit a satisfactory project report (18 credits) on a topic approved by the Board of Studies.
Candidates should complete four Molecular Pathology Courses (36 credits) and three Diagnostic Pathology Courses (27 credits).
The configuration of the programme permits those not seeking the PDipMDPath qualification to take only individual courses as occasional students.

Programme Entrance Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the curriculum leading to the Postgraduate Diploma in Molecular and Diagnostic Pathology, a candidate shall:
a) comply with the General Regulations;
b) comply with the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula;
c) hold a Bachelor's degree or a degree of MBBS of this University, or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
d) satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to high degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b), if he/she is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English; and
e) satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination, if required.
Advanced standing for up to a maximum of 12 credits, for the Postgraduate Diploma in Molecular and Diagnostic Pathology, may be granted to a candidate who has successfully completed one or more courses in the Postgraduate Certificate in Molecular and Diagnostic Pathology (PCMDPath); subject to the condition that such course(s) should be completed no more than 2 years prior to the commencement of the PDipMDPath curricula.
