The general objective of the Master of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics [MDS(Orthodontics&DentofacialOrthopaedics)] programme is to educate dentists to become specialists in orthodontics with a solid, broad academic background and adequate clinical experience in different treatment methods through prescribed coursework, supervised clinical work and a supervised research project.
The coursework will enable the students to acquire knowledge of the relevant literature and basic scientific skills; to develop a scientific approach to solving problems; to learn to assess and criticise scientific papers; to undertake typodont courses and implement techniques in clinical orthodontics to an advanced level; to integrate theoretical and practical knowledge in the management of all kinds of young and adult orthodontic patients; to acquire familiarity with related dental/medical disciplines and the biomedical sciences relevant to orthodontics; and to receive training in research methods.
The programme will include an oral and written examination of clinical and research findings, as well as a research project to be planned, conducted and presented as a written thesis or a publishable paper to a committee including Internal and External examiners.

- A BDS degree of this University or an equivalent qualification.
- A minimum of two years of general dentistry.
- A fellowship from one of the Colleges is desirable.
