Surgical Robots for Cardiology Surgery

Research team of Dr. Ka-wai Kwok, Department of Mechanical Engineering

The robot developed at HKU Mechanical Engineering is to assist interventional cardiologist to control a cardiac catheter for a treatment of heart rhythm disorder. This is a world-first robot capable to operate close to or inside magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner, which generates high magnetic field posing very challenging to the use of conventional robotic components.
