Why Malaysian Students Choose The University of Hong Kong

HKU is/has
  • 3rd most international university in the world (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2017)
  • 25th in the world (QS World University Rankings 2019)
  • Nearly 100% graduate employment rate for 12 consecutive years.

Nearly 40% of HKU's graduates are able to secure a job offer even before they graduate. Therefore, it is not surprising that a majority of our graduates from around the world choose to stay in Hong Kong and work. This bustling metropolis is full of opportunities and graduates can easily get a work visa. HKU has helped several students launch their careers in Hong Kong and rest of the world.

Many of our students also say that taking up internships during semester breaks is how they narrowed down their interests, gained experience, travelled and even secured jobs. HKU has a culture that actively encourages students to take up internships; our student advisory body, CEDARS has several resources which students can use to find internships that match their interests.

Hear From Our Students

I have interned with Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia. I applied through CEDARS’s ASEAN Summer Internship Programme. As a year one student, I realized that it is better to start simple and starting with a small company meant that I got to learn more as opposed to some big company where the job would be more specialized. This marketing job involved skills and knowledge beyond my major of accounting and finance which definitely broadened my horizons. My interpersonal skills have also improved significantly as I had to interact with various stakeholders to promote the company’s new online platform. It was truly a valuable platform to attain practical knowledge and skills for the emerging e-commerce industry.

Yongqing San, Year 2

One of my working experiences was through an experiential learning project in the Philippines. I worked with a local business by providing them consulting services to solve their business problems and improve their overall wellbeing. Through intense information gathering and understanding of the local culture, values, constraints and opportunities; I learnt to be more creative and to make the best decisions and fine-tune solutions based on the resources available. This experience was truly amazing and even eye-opening as I had to live in a rural environment which I had never experienced before. I gained personal and professional insights and became a more wholesome learner because of this opportunity.
