Why Indonesian Students Choose The University of Hong Kong
- 3rd most international university in the world (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2017)
- 25th in the world (QS World University Rankings 2019)
- Nearly 100% graduate employment rate for 12 consecutive years.
Nearly 40% of HKU's graduates are able to secure a job offer even before they graduate. Therefore, it is not surprising that a majority of our graduates from around the world choose to stay in Hong Kong and work. This bustling metropolis is full of opportunities and graduates can easily get a work visa. HKU has helped several students launch their careers in Hong Kong and rest of the world.
Many of our students also say that taking up internships during semester breaks is how they narrowed down their interests, gained experience, travelled and even secured jobs. HKU has a culture that actively encourages students to take up internships; our student advisory body, CEDARS has several resources which students can use to find internships that match their interests.
Hear From Our Students
I am currently an Associate in PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong under One Firm Services, which is basically a rotation program that allows us to work in different lines of services. As we are expected to be willing and able to learn new things quickly, being exposed to HKU’s academic culture had helped me in getting used to the fast working pace in Hong Kong.
If I was asked to choose the best moment I had during my college life, it would be my exchange program to The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Not only did it (‘literally’) opened a whole new world for me to explore, but it also taught me life skills that are especially useful in the working environment. Skills like building intercultural relationships and not being afraid to speak and stand up for the right things; these cannot be learned passively but rather need to be experienced. And of course, I was also involved in a non-academic activity where I got to meet my beloved Canadian family: The UBC A Cappella.
University life in HKU for me has been very fruitful. HKU has encouraged me to learn beyond the scope of the classroom. To me , extracurricular activities and relevant experience are must-haves to successfully initiate a career in Hong Kong. The fact that it constantly exposes its students to valuable opportunities, is my main reason for choosing HKU.
During my first two years of university I have participated in multiple case competitions, both local and international, most of which are introduced and fully funded by Faculty of Business and Economics at HKU. Last year, in a case competition hosted by Maybank, I was declared the runner-up and the bank extended an offer for a summer internship which was pretty unexcepted as they typically look for third-year students. I worked within the Global Banking department, gaining client-facing skills and a holistic overview of the banking industry. The learning curve I experienced was indescribable.
