Commitment to Flexible Arrangements for Students Affected by COVID-19
We at the University of Hong Kong have been closely monitoring the impact of COVID-19. Our thoughts and best wishes continue to be with everyone affected by this pandemic.
We are now together going through a unique and unprecedented situation. Our primary concern is the health and well-being of all friends, colleagues, and students affected. We understand the recent announcements on cancellation and postponement of key public examinations have added much stress and anxiety to students around the world, and wish to reassure applicants that the University is committed to allowing greater flexibility in the processing and evaluation of students' applications.
The University is now actively reaching out to the different examination bodies for their advice and confirmation on what their final awards will entail. We respect the decisions of examination bodies in their assessment of students’ achievements. At the same time, the University will continue to fairly assess all applications by reviewing them holistically (considered both academic and non-academic performances). As we receive more concrete information from examination bodies we will also reach out to students and counsellors with any updates.
We would like to encourage students who have been affected by this pandemic to keep a log of any disruption encountered, so the University may gain a better perspective in the challenges our applicants have overcome.
We would also strongly encourage all applicants to make use of our online study resources to support your preparation and transition into the HKU undergraduate programmes. These resources can be accessed via our website and different social media channels. Counsellors are invited to also bookmark our page dedicated to support your work at https://aal.hku.hk/admissions/international/admissions-information?page=information-counsellors-careers-masters for updates.
You may also wish to note the following arrangements that are already in place:
• Application for September 2020 entry will remain open until noon of 20th August, 2020 (HK Time). We will continue to evaluate applications as they are submitted.
• Documents and reference letters for evaluation purposes can be uploaded onto the system by applicants and counsellors after submission of the application.
• Applicants and counsellors are welcome to update any academic evidence that help the University to understand your academic and non-academic performance even after the submission of application to best reflect students’ qualifications and readiness for University.
