HeForShe IMPACT Champion Scholarships

The HeForShe IMPACT Champion Scholarships is a true manifestation of the collaboration between HKU and the United Nations on propelling gender equity. HeForShe is a United Nations entity for gender equality and the empowerment of women, as well as one of HKU’s gender equity measures. HKU was the first university globally to launch the initiative on campus in 2015. Each year, HKU is committed to award the HeForShe IMPACT Champion Scholarships that cover tuition and accommodation fees, plus a living allowance to disadvantaged students.

The Scholarships will enable students from economically deprived backgrounds to receive quality education at HKU, in the hope of reducing barriers against social mobility and to promote gender equity for access to higher education in less developed countries.

The HeForShe IMPACT Champion Scholarships will be awarded to students with outstanding academic results, who have overcome the problems of gender inequality in education where they live. This does not limit the applicants to only being female. Those students who have significantly contributed to achieving the goals of the HeForShe movement are also welcomed to apply.

Students may apply to any HKU undergraduate programme. The scholarships will have a value equivalent to a FULL tuition fee waiver plus accommodation, flight and general living allowance per year, and are renewable on a yearly basis. You may check HKU tuition fee and cost of living reference here.

Each year, preference will be given to candidates from countries selected according to UN criteria (e.g. Human Development Index, Gender Development Index and Gender Inequality Index).  Preference will also be given to applicants with a significantly disadvantaged background, including issues of gender inequality, and/or those with high financial need.
