Programme Aims and Features
Since 2008-2009, the Faculty of Engineering has introduced the common admissions scheme, through which applicants can use one single code, 6963, to apply for any one of the following eight BENG programmes:
- Civil Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Computer Science
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management
- Mechanical Engineering
Features of BENG programmes include:
- A wide range of choices
Under the common admissions scheme, the first academic year is common to all BEng students, in which they will enjoy learning foundations of engineering, which prepares students to pursue any engineering discipline in their second years of studies.
- A broad-based, flexible Engineering education
A new, broader Engineering curriculum will extend students’ horizons and consolidate their technical foundations.
- Academic advice
Academic advice will be provided to students to help them choose courses for the first academic year and decide on subsequent study plans.
- Options for minors
Students can choose minor options in other engineering disciplines offered by the Faculty of Engineering or those offered by other faculties, subject to fulfiling their requirements.
- Option of double-degree BEng/BBA
Students can apply for the double-degree BEng/BBA provided they meet the additional requirements. Students will have the chance to take business courses during their BEng studies, with the option of undertaking an additional year on a self-financing basis that leads to the Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
- Rich opportunities for experiential learning programmes and capstone experiences
With effect from academic year 2014-2015, a quota of 140 will be imposed for the BENG programmes of each department of the Faculty of Engineering. Students can choose their desired study programme after their first year of study, on the basis of academic performance.
